"Coach" Ahren Self has loved the sound of Bagpipes ever since his days as a Cadet at The Citadel, where he played football. Fast-forwarding to more recent times, Ahren's father-in-law wanted a piper in the family in honor of the family's MacLeod roots. He jumped at the chance, and started taking lessons on the bagpipes in August 2018, joining the band as a performing player in 2019.

Ahren can be found teaching at Summerville High School and serving as the Defensive Coordinator and Inside Linebackers Coach for the Summerville Green Wave when he's not playing bagpipes (and sometimes when he IS playing bagpipes).

One of the best things about being a member of The Charleston Pipe Band for him is that he loves being around good people and enjoys being a part of a group that can touch people musically on a different level.
