Originally from the UK, Russell started learning tenor drum at age 14, and by 18 he had also learned the snare drum. He moved to the USA at 21 and had lessons with several instructors and judges, including TyFry and Bob Meade. He began playing bass at 26 and studied under Bob Meade and Sally Warburton.

Russell has competed with and led several bands successfully in competitions up and down the southeast; including the Gr4 EUSPBA champions, and winning several bass drummer of the day awards.

In 2015 he began researching and developing his mallets with the guidance of Bob Meade, and input from several others. Russell has a website <RDProStikz.com> where he sells his drumming merchandise and other related items. Russell has even made pipe drone sets on his 3-D printer—in a variety of bright colors-- and the pipers in the band think they sound really good!

In 2020 Russell began a YouTube Channel to help share the knowledge and fun that comes with Highland drumming.

Russell joined the CPB in 2021. He has taught his daughter Piper how to play the snare drum and now she is playing snare drum in the band.
